I’ve tried enough squishies now to know that “squishy” barely describes a category. A NeeDoh Nice Cube feels nothing like a flocked Taba hamster, and neither feels like a giant Sunny Days slice of cheese.
If I had to keep only one for everyday use, I’d pick NeeDoh or Squeez’M. If I cared mostly about cuteness, Taba would win immediately. Sunny Days is what I reach for when I want something ridiculous and fun rather than a serious fidget.
NeeDoh
NeeDoh is still my reference point for a dense squish.
A real Nice Cube has a thick, resistant feel that is difficult to describe until you squeeze one. It gives slowly under pressure instead of collapsing straight away, then the gel pushes it back into shape. The regular Groovy Glob has the same satisfying resistance in a softer, rounder form.
I use NeeDoh more like an actual desk fidget than a collectible. It is something I can pick up without thinking while reading or working, squeeze for a few minutes, then leave beside my keyboard.
There are two annoyances. Genuine NeeDoh can be surprisingly expensive when a particular model becomes hard to find, and there are plenty of convincing fakes. I stick to sellers I trust rather than buying the cheapest listing I can find.
I also don’t treat them as indestructible. Heat and rough use can damage the outer skin, so I never leave mine in direct sun or inside a hot car.
For that dense, doughy squeeze, NeeDoh is still the one I compare everything else against.
Squeez’M
Squeez’M is the closest replacement I’ve found, especially the Big Block and Premium Cube.
The Big Block is noticeably larger than a typical squishy cube, roughly 30 to 35% bigger in my experience, and that extra size makes it particularly good for squeezing with both hands. The filling is dense without being quite as firm as my NeeDoh cubes.
I actually started using mine more often when some NeeDoh models became difficult to find at sensible prices.
It also feels fairly clean in the hand. Mine has very little smell and doesn’t develop the aggressively tacky surface that some gel squishies do. It does soften after a long squeezing session, but once it sits and cools down, it becomes firmer again.
The surface attracts dust and stray hairs a little more easily than NeeDoh, which is the main thing I notice on my desk.
If someone asked me for a practical NeeDoh alternative rather than a collectible, this is the first one I’d suggest. You get a lot of squishy for the money.
Taba Squishies
My flocked Taba hamsters are easily the cutest squishies I own.
They feel completely different from NeeDoh. Instead of a smooth outer skin and dense gel, the hamster has a soft fuzzy coating over a very soft, slightly sticky silicone body. Pressing its cheeks is probably more entertaining than it should be.
They also look much more like little characters than stress toys. That is a big part of the appeal for me.
The tradeoff is durability.
The flock can rub off. Small details such as eyes can loosen, and the soft silicone does not like aggressive stretching or constant hard squeezing. Once the surface gets damaged, it can also become noticeably stickier.
I keep mine in a little bag when I’m not using them and squeeze them much more gently than my cubes.
So I wouldn’t buy a Taba hamster as a work fidget that you plan to abuse for hours every day. I think of mine more as a tiny collectible that happens to be extremely satisfying to squish.
Sunny Days Squeezy
Sunny Days makes some of the funniest squishies I’ve tried.
A giant wedge of cheese, stick of butter, strawberry, or piece of cake is already funny before you touch it. The larger food shapes also give you much more material to grab than a small cube.
The texture varies more than the other brands here. Some feel dense and creamy. Others have more air inside and collapse much faster, almost like squeezing whipped foam.
Quality can vary too. I’ve had examples that returned to shape nicely and stayed clean, but others became tacky much faster. The scent is also inconsistent. Some barely smell at all, while others have a smell I would rather not have sitting next to me all day.
That makes Sunny Days harder for me to recommend as someone’s one and only stress toy.
I buy them because they’re fun. Sometimes I don’t want the most technically satisfying squish. I want to squeeze an absurdly large piece of cheese.
Which One Would I Buy?
For everyday squeezing, I’d start with NeeDoh if I could find the model I wanted at a reasonable price. Squeez’M is my next choice and may actually be the better value if you want a larger cube.
I’d choose Taba for cuteness and collecting, not durability.
And Sunny Days Squeezy is the fun option. The texture is less predictable, but none of the others make me smile quite like a giant squishy stick of butter.
